I bought a new camera on Monday and this image and the few below are the first images I'm posting which I made with it. I'm sure you're going to see a whole lot more. I think it might be the most expensive thing I've ever bought aside from my flat, its hewn from solid unobtanium. It's unbelievabiy heavy and large but no matter, its a proper  photographic chainsaw of a camera producing images with pop a lot like a medium format camera might produce. I'm blown away by the richness and depth and extraordinary detail it seems capable of even at high ISOs like these shot at ISO 800 and 1600. The camera is a 16mp Canon IDS MK II, full frame or in other words, the same imaging size as 35mm film. This is one of the holy grails in photographic geekland. The lens I used is a new Canon 70-300 DO IS USM. What all that gibberish means is that canon did some tricky engineering and built a lens which is quiet when it zips through its automatic focusing routines, is very hand-holdable in low light situations and capable of excellent sharpness all the while keeping it very compact, a trick they pulled off with a big price tag. If it seems to you that suddenly the portrait orientation images are longer and the landscape orientation images are shorter, its because of the noticeable different shape 35mm film has from digital sensors.  I'll write more about the new kit when I revise the sidebar.
